Iroquois West student Nolan Manzke was the winner of the 53rd annual WGFA fifth and sixth Grade Iroquois County Spelling Bee which took place Friday, May 3, in the Watseka Unit 9 District Office. Twenty-two students took part, representing their respective schools. The event was organized by WGFA Radio and the Ford-Iroquois Retired Teachers Association. All spellers made it through the first round, with several getting eliminated over the next few rounds. Going into the sixth round were Michaela Gibbs, who was eliminated when she misspelled “souvenir;” Nolan Manzki, who spelled “nuisance” correctly; AJ Rogers, who misspelled “courteous” and Kobie Hendershot, who went through with “capsule.”
