Members from the Gilman American Legion and Auxiliary and a few other posts from the area as well as a number of area residents were on hand Friday to salute Army Sgt. Jeremy C. Sherman, 23, a Watseka native who was killed in November when the helicopter in which he was riding crashed while on a peacekeeping mission in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula. Four other soldiers were killed in the accident.
The funeral procession traveled down I-57 from Chicago’s Midway airport to Gilman and then to Watseka as people and flags lined the route.
Services for Sgt. Sherman were held later at a Watseka church.
