Onarga village board members formally met their new chief of police Monday night, James Willowby, 30, who will be coming from Gibson City

Willowby is a 2000 graduate of Pekin High School and also earned a degree in criminal justice from Illinois Central College.

James says he will be moving from Gibson City, where he was an EMT and certified member of a crisis intervention team, in a few weeks.

He says the trend towards law enforcement careers run in the family as with his father, uncle and cousins.

It was otherwise a slow night for the Onarga board which adjourned at 7:30 after talking with Willowby and discussing the need to update ordinances regarding part-time police officers.

In other action, the board:

–Heard superintendent of public works Tim Hamilton say that there are now 298 hookups to Onarga’s new sanitary sewer system.

–Discussed possible action against inoperable vehicles.

–Heard that a plat and boundaries for a proposed tax increment financing district are being developed.

–Discussed possible sale of some delinquent properties.
