The Gilman city council took steps Monday night to start construction on what is being called the Fifth Street Sanitary Sewer Interceptor Replacement Project which will be the last link on what has been a long process to update Gilman’s sewer system. A good part of Gilman’s sanitary sewer system was built in the WPA days as part of public works projects designed to put people to work during hard times. Over time the sewer lines had deteriorated to the point where some simply disintegrated and had to be replaced.
