Last year The Star received an email with pictures from the Chicago Alliance for Animals (CAA) who had started a petition to be given to Iroquois County States Attorney James Devine in regard to an animal sanctuary which was operating on the edge of Thawville as the EARTH Sanctuary.

The wording on the release regarding the petition is as follows: “On June 23, 2019, a former board member of the EARTH Animal Sanctuary discovered nothing short of a horror story. What used to be a peaceful, final resting place for animals who’d passed on, is now a ghastly ditch littered with hundreds of animals in various states of decomposition, rotting in plastic bags and a mound of bones and skulls overlapping one life with another, carelessly tossed away like garbage.”

The EARTH Animal Sanctuary was founded and operated by Corinne DiLorenzo, Thawville, who has now been indicted and arrested and charged with aggravated animal cruelty and is scheduled to make her first court date Thursday at 9:30 at the Iroquois County Courthouse. The fact that the case is drawing a lot of media attention would indicate the court house could be crowded. The Chicago Tribune ran a front page story on the issue in its Tuesday edition interviews with Thawville farmer and village official Bob Lange.
